Professional Standard Four

Reflection:

I understand this standard to mean that as a teacher I am responsible to valuing diversity and using this diversity to enhance the leaning experience of the students in each class. I am also responsible for creating lesson plans that cater for a wide range of diverse students and allow each student equal opportunity to lean and grow to their full potential.

Strengths / Weaknesses:

I feel that I am lacking knowledge in this area, as I believe experience is the best teacher in this case. I theoretically understand diversity, however working with it is another issue. I feel I need to apply the techniques I have learnt in a real class to be comfortable with my ability for this standard.

Artifacts:

-       I feel time in a class room with a support structure (prac teaching) will be the best artifact for this weakness. In addition talking to other professionals in small discussion groups and researching techniques to accommodate diversity may help.

-       Create individual learning plans for diverse students

-       Volunteer with a disabilities service
