Professional Standard Eight

Reflection:

I understand this standard to mean that as a teacher I need to maintain a positive and constructive relationship and dialogue with parents and the community. Also I am responsible to use these relationships to further enhance my ability to create leaning experiences with the students.

Strengths / Weaknesses:

I feel as a teacher I am responsible for the outcome of the students and as such it is very important to foster good relationships with the parents and understand their individual needs for their children. By being a compassionate person at heart I feel I will be able to relate to parents well and assimilate with their values and needs.

Artifacts:

-       To start a relationship with parents I would ask to have my details published on the schools website and have an open line of communication which they can contact me. In addition regular service out side the class room with sport and fundraising will foster such relationships with the community and parents.

-       Send introduction letter to parents

-       Have a peer observation done and discuss results.
